Stretches, Stripes and Scars

Now and again on the Interweb, you come across something that makes you think a little bit differently, and makes you feel a little more 'normal'.

Photographer and mother Ashlee Wells Jackson has developed a worldwide project called 4th Trimester Bodies, that is  “dedicated to embracing the beauty inherent in the changes brought to our bodies by motherhood, childbirth and breastfeeding'.

She has been touring the length and breadth of  the USA,  (and is heading to Europe later this year), taking photographs of mothers of all ages. Her photos are challenging, beautiful, thoughtful, inspirational and searingly honest.

I applaud the women who've been brave enough to show their 'real ' bodies, in a society that airbrushes even the most perfect. In all honesty, I'm not sure that  I could do it....even though I really wish that I could.

How about you?  Could you get naked and show off your stretchmarks, your jelly belly or your scars? The 4th Trimester project will soon be coming to a city near you if you're up for it.........

  1. Totally - i never looked like a frigging super-model to start off with and now I'm proud of the way I look ;) I won't be diving into a bikini any time soon but in the right clothing with a bit of help from spanx I think I scrub up pretty good! ;) xx

  2. ive seen this photographer before and i applaud anything that goes in the face of the looney 'shopped' skinnies that our girls think of as normal. Im always saying 'real girls dont't look like that you know that dont you?' to my girls. Thank God someone is trying to show real life x
