Here's a little slice of a conversation between a deep thinking Rory and myself, one morning last week. It took place before 8am. Yep, he often enjoys tackling deep and meaningful questions about life and the universe before 8am.'Mummy- which planet do you prefer? Earth or Saturn? I like Saturn because of its rings. What colour are it's rings?
What came first, Stone Age people or dinosaurs? Where did the people come from then? The very first babies?
Does anyone live to be 150? Just a few people? Will you? Will I? I love you. You're the best mummy. Yes,I've put my pants on. Can I've a piece of toast?'

I say conversation, but it was more of a monologue because I admit that I don't always rise to the occasion amid the madness of mornings around here. Sometimes I find myself irritated and I try to hurry him along, giving him short distracted answers, even changing the subject in an effort to keep the finely tuned show on the road.
And yet... Some day, I suspect I'll miss his questions, some day when mornings are quiet, and there is'nt a puddle of milk on the floor, or spilt cereal on the counter, and my morning check list is no longer necessary. In that quiet, maybe, just maybe, I'll wish I'd taken a wee bit more time to stay in the moment with him, listening well to his questions and answering them properly.
Note to self....Must try harder.
