I was spending a small fortune on the cheapest shop-brand sparkling water and could get through up to 3L a day while breastfeeding. I was so happy to save all those plastic bottles too, which is not only good for the environment, but also saves our recycling bin being jam-packed just a few days after collection (which is every fortnight). BUT, I hadn't factored in the cost of the gas canisters accurately and, sadly, it actually works out far cheaper to buy the own-brand value sparkling water than it does to replace the gas.
